AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM TRIB ABOUT RETREAD DOT CODES

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM TRIB ABOUT DOT CODES

The U.S. Department of Transportation has asked for our help in researching obsolete three letter DOT codes. If you are a retreader either retreading or selling retreads in the U.S., you know that you must mark the retreads you produce or sell with the three letter DOT code assigned to your company.

Here is the problem.

The U.S. Department of Transportation is running out of three letter codes and unless they can determine which three letter codes presently assigned are obsolete, meaning the companies to whom they have been assigned are no longer in business or they are no longer retreading, they will have no choice except to begin assigning FOUR letter codes. This is something they really do not want to do.

Here is how you can help.

If you are a large company such as Bridgestone Bandag, Michelin, Goodyear, etc, with many retreader dealers and you have information about which of these retreader dealers are no longer in business or are no longer retreading, we want to hear from you with a list of the company names, addresses and, if possible, the DOT codes no longer in use. Even if you do not have the DOT codes, we still want as much information as you are able to furnish because we may be able to track down the obsolete DOT codes through resources in our office.

If you are reading this and are a former retreader no longer using your DOT code, or if you know of any former retreaders, we want this information. It can be very valuable and will be much appreciated by our industry.

The sooner you can provide this information, the better! The U.S. Department of Transportation is coming to the end of three letter codes to assign.

Please contact us if you have any ideas about how we can improve this search project or if you want to discuss any part of this message.

Best regards,
